One City – Two Earthquakes

Task description: This week we have been learning all about Christchurch and the devastating earthquakes that happened in 2010 and 2011. Our leaning intention was to find clues within the text and read between the lines to understand the hidden meaning to make a conclusion or an assumption. This week we read an article called “One City – Two Earthquakes.” We learnt the different ways to stay safe during an earthquake. For our task we had to create a piece of digital art showing how to drop, cover and hold. Check out my image below as well as my review of the article. Please feel free to leave a positive comment on my blog.

Recount: Marshmallow Challenge

Task description: This week we have been learning all about how to create a recount and adding lots of detial and descriptive langauge. As a class we completed a fun activity called the marshmallow challnege. After completeing the challenge we then wrote a recount about our expereinces. Check out my writing below. Please leave a positive comment on my blog.

For term 4 we did a marshmallow challenge. My group, which had 5 people in it, helped me. Maddison, catherine, sophia, emzjull and me did the marshmallow challenge. My favourite part was at the end when we got to eat the marshmallows. We all had thoughts and ideas but didn’t like any of them. It was sad we didn’t get to listen to maddisons one.

We all got to take turns talking about each other’s ideas and in the end we decided to go with Emzjull’s ideas which was to break the marshmallows and spaghetti apart to make a longer tower which had more marshmallows if you broke it apart. We all liked that idea and started to build our structure which was the tower.

We built one by one with the marshmallows and the spaghetti and finally made a tower. We thought we did it but we didn’t because it always broke so it was hard to build it back together. Some of us had to hold it to make sure it didn’t fall down so we wouldn’t lose. We managed to finish building our tower and ate the marshmallows. At least we had fun, which was the most important part.

Then I interviewed Kalylah who was playing the character Julie. Check out my interview with Julie below and let me know what you think.

A Dangerous Game

I chose to be Nathan and interviewed Kalylah who played the character Julie. Check out our interview questions and the interviews at the end of the presentation.

Manaiakalani Film Festival Presentation

Task description: This week we have been coming up with some creative ideas for our Manaiakalani film festival movie. My group thought decided that we should create a movie about the missing teacher. We had to present our ideas with the rest of the class to see what they thought of the idea. Here is a video of us sharing our idea with the rest of the class, what do you think?

Check out my video here!

Manaiakalani Film Festival Idea

Please let me know what you think of my idea!

Characters

Who are the main characters in the movie?

Describe each character in detail.

Policewoman: Played by Sophia, she is a mean woman who is overprotective of her job. She is bossy but is really good at her job.

Victim: Played by Maddison, she was poisoned by the sheriff who was her good friend because the victim was more famous than the murderer.
Setting
Where is the plan set? Is there more than one location?
Hall – where they are having a disco and where the poisoning happens.
Police station – where the main events happen, there is one long desk and seats on each side where the suspects are being questioned.

Year 5 and 6 Camp Recount

Task description: A few weeks ago we had year 5 and 6 camp on our school field. This week for writing we had to create a recount about our camp experience. Check out my camp experience below:

In week five, team 4 went to camp and it was the best school camp ever. What we did at first was playing in the hall and going on scooters/skateboards. We did camp on the field and under the marquee. We went to camp on week six Wednesday morning. I have no idea the reason why we went but I think it was probably a fun day. How I went to camp is very easy. I just got dropped off and went to the hall. I was sleeping with a friend from my class called Mikyrah. I was in a group called kea and I think our chant sounds really brave, and our dance. Whenever have to go to the marquee we go we have to walk to the marquee and We can run if we wanted whenever it’s playtime. At camp we went to the pools everyday. We went to the GI pools for the first 2 days and on the last day we went to the lagoon pool. At first we were at the hall and Mrs. Langitupu was explaining. Next we went to the hall to play on the trampoline and volleyball, tennis and ping pong. After that we played killer zone which was my favourite. Then we went to the pool for only 10 minutes twice a day and on the last day in the lagoon pool took probably about ½ hours. Finally we ate dinner and dessert, which dessert is my favourite. I would talk about how we came first for camp for the callout. They told all of us that kea won for camp and I was surprised/happy/grateful for winning. I think we won because our tents were tidy and we were good at kayaking but I think the best kayaker in my group was justin. And because we were kind and camp is the best part of point england school.

My Library Book

Task description: Today we completed a task about our library books. My library book is called Soraya the story teller by Rosanne Hawke. For this task we had to talk about our book and if we would recommend our book to a friend or not. I would like to recommend my book because I would like my friend to read it so that we can compare what we liked about the book.
